Blogger's block / dog bite

Been trying to write this post since the weekend but I only managed to get as far as three sentences then that’s it…don’t know how to continue. Got hit by the blogger’s block. Er, does such term exist? Writer’s block is familiar but blogger’s block??? Oh well, never mind. Hopefully, the block is only temporary. Okay, I better explain before you get the wrong idea :) . My ‘blogger’s block’ has nothing to do with me being bitten by a dog.

Okay, last Friday, as I was getting ready to go home, I got a call from my maid. In a panic-stricken voice, she told me that the neighbour’s dog bit Vanessa. When I heard the news, I think I stopped breathing for a moment there. After I found my breath again, I asked her to calm down and explain what really happened. In a calmer but still nervous voice, “Kami pigi rumah sebelah. Dia tendang anjing yang sedang baring. Terus anjing gigit [We went to the neighbour’s house. She kicked the neighbour’s dog and was bitten],” she stammered. "
Luka sikit saja, tidak berdarah, Vanessa tidak nangis [Small wound only, no bleeding, Vanessa didn’t uttered a cry],” she continued. Phew! I was relief to hear that.
When I reached home, I saw Vanessa was running cheerfully in the lawn like usual. Thank God, it was only a minor scratch. Obviously it didn’t hurt, as she did not complained about it. However, maid was scared and repeatedly apologizes for her carelessness. She was so anxious that the incident might lead her to jail. Her voice sounded like she was ready to break into tears anytime. It was pointless to go fuming at her because it won’t change anything. After explaining how dangerous it is to disturbed a napping dog, it was lucky that it wasn’t a real bite. I gave her a stern warning that she should not be careless in the future.

Although it was only a scratch, I was worried about infections. Besides, I doubted that the dog has ever gotten any immunization shots. So, hubby and I took Vanessa to see the doctor, just to make sure. First, we went to my company’s panel clinic, Klinik P. I was told that there’s nothing to worry about. Vanessa was given only paracetamol syrup, in case she gets fever. “What about antibiotic, Doc?” “It’s not necessary, there’s no sign of any infection on the wound. It’ll heal in its own within 2-3 days,” Dr. G dismissed my thought. Somehow, the 5 minutes consultation was not really convincing. Hubby decided to go to another clinic nearby.

We were already outside when Vanessa started to whine and cry. She was pointing towards the clinic. Hubby and I had no idea what she wanted. So, hubby took Vanessa back into the clinic. Pointing at the baby scale, she said “cho-cho, cho-cho…” *Slap forehead* Rupa-rupanya, she wanted to sit on the scale. When she was seated, she didn’t just sit…she lied down as well, ala-ala baby gitu….hahahaha. Everybody in the clinic laughed at her antic. After a few seconds, she was satisfied and ready to go off. :)

We went through the whole who, what, when, where and how process all over again at Klinik H. Dr K asked a brief description about the dog, its health, immunization status etc. After he examined the scratch, we were told that we have nothing to worry about. He prescribed another bottle of paracetamol syrup and antibiotic to prevent infection, just in case. Dr K was more convincing; at least he showed his concern by asking about the dog unlike the first doctor.

Now after 6 days, the scratch has healed. Only a faint scar was left of the scratch.

Weekend mood...

Yey, its Friday again! Thankfully it is free and easy in the office today. I found myself glancing at the clock every now and then, another 1 hour and it’s time to go home…ketara butul tida sabar-sabar suda mau pulang ni…LOL!

Okay, in my last post, I mentioned about my new read, a book by
Patricia Cornwell . No, no….I have not finish reading it. Err, well, I don’t think that I’ll be reading it any longer. Why? Because I have just returned it to its rightful owner, the library. As with the other Dr Kay Scarpetta series’ books, it is loaded with so many medical jargons yang memeningkan kepala. Well, I did managed to read through a few chapters though but *sigh* that’s as far as my brain can tolerate with those tongue-twisting, brain-squeezing medical terms. Simply put, I am really, really not in the mood and/or too lazy to layan them…menyiksa kapla otak ku ja. Hehe..maybe some other time la….

So, what book do I have in hand now? Le’t see, here are two books in totally different categories. One --- ROMANCE and the other--- BAKING. Yeah, that’s right…ROMANCE! Ahaks… I know, I know, I hardly read romance book, but this one is an exception. It is certainly not the type that is full of drama, love, betrayal bla, bla, bla… At the back of the book, it says that it’s a comical romance, laugh aloud blockbuster, deliciously witty satire etc. Now I’m only at the 3rd chapter, but I’m loving it. No regrets borrowing this one…hehe…Oh, nearly forgot the title, Azur Like It..(Azur as in Cote d'Azur, France) by Wendy Holden.

About the other book, well, it is just for fun…suka-suka saja. Found it on the Returned Book Cart. Flipped thru a few pages, looked at the colourful illustrations, I’m impressed..(not to mention drooling over the yummy-looking cakes hehehe…) that I decided to borrow this 360 pages thick hardcover, heavy recipe book. Mana la tau... among the 1,001 classic cake recipes in it, I might want to try one or two of the simple recipe…hahahha…macam la terrer bikin cake kan… ;p

Okay la, enough la me rambling …Enjoy your weekend ya ! :)

Ideas/tips/suggestions, please...

Still remember the skirt that I ‘accidentally’ (such a lame excuse huh?!) bought last month? Yup, that’s the one, the unnecessary purchase *eyes rolling*. As I said before, I regretted buying it then. Now, I regret it even more. *sigh *

Well, there is nothing wrong with the skirt, no defect whatsoever. I still like the color and the style, but I find it quite difficult to mix and match. Apart from matching it with a black top, I don’t really know what else would match it. So far, I have only worn it once, with a black top of course. I would like to wear it more often but don’t want to pair it with a plain, black top every time *sigh*. So, I’m hoping you guys can give me some tips/ideas/suggestions on how to mix and match this skirt. Thank you. :)

On a different note, I have finished reading The Devil Wears Prada…hehe..finally. My verdict, I love it. Page by page, it was fun to read. It was so gutsy of Andrea (the main character) to tell-off her devilish boss to go f*ck herself and left. Although the bold outburst got her fired but if I’m in her shoes, I’ll do exactly the same thing. LOL. Padan muka tu boss..kotoh!!! If you haven’t read it yet, and happen to be in search for some light reading, then you should consider this book. You won’t regret it. * smile* Okay, I am looking forward to start on the Book of the Dead by Patricia Cornwell, another book borrowed from the library...:)

My umbrella, ella, ella, ella ,eh,eh...

These few days, I noticed that Vanessa was getting lazy or rather bored with her daily chore as fish feeder. This morning, instead of scooping the fish food patiently from the can, she poured out the whole contents at one go. She also plays the ball less frequent. I guess she was just bored playing with maid @ Kakak and Mama everyday. Surprisingly, the kids next door never came to play during this school holiday. It seems that they prefer to stay indoor watching TV…maybe it is because of the hot weather or simply too many not-to-be-missed cartoon shows to watch. LOL.

Anyway, I think Vanessa has developed a new interest – jalan-jalan keliling rumah. LOL. My mum was complaining that Vanessa was whining a lot, refused the Kakak and insists on mum to accompany her outside, making a few perfect rounds of the house. It all started when my mum let Vanessa join her weeding in the backyard one fine morning. While Mama was busy with the weeding, Vanessa, sitting not too far, watched diligently. Not soon after that, Vanessa seized the moment to wander, exploring the surroundings. Of course, with Mama watching checking on her from time to time. Anyway, it was a fun thing to do then, but now everyday, even in broad daylight, tengah hari buta, Vanessa demanded to be taken outside for a jalan-jalan session. Aiyo, under the scorching sun?? Nobody wants to do that. My mum and maid had a difficult time trying to talk Vanessa out of it. LOL.

Yesterday, my maid let dear Vanessa joins her doing some housekeeping. And guess what she found? A green, miniature umbrella and a small handbag. She loves them so much that she carries them around everywhere she goes. Even to sleep. No kidding! Last night, she fell asleep with her umbrella and bag at her side. LOL. I tried to coax her not to bring them to bed but she insisted by crying out loud. Ahh, I surrendered! Sayang sekali, I didn’t snap a photo. *sigh* I should have captured the moment and later when she grew up, I can show it to her…hahahaha….

'Aunty' just came back from the tamu, terduduk kepenatan...

The devil wears Prada

The book by Lauren Weisberger was published in 2003. The movie came in 2006 starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway among others. Okay, okay, I am perfectly aware that this is old news, sooooo yesterday. But why talk about it now? Well, believe or not, I have not read the book or watch the movie yet….haha…see la how ‘ketinggalan’ I am…

Have I mentioned before that I am a loyal visitor of the State Library, Penampang Branch? Anyway, I am. Duh! Last week, I went to the library to return and to borrow new books at the same time. However, I was frustrated that I can’t find any book that I am interested in. I have read all the available books by my fav authors, so I need to find others but not too sure whether I will like it or not. So there I was, browsing the books, shelf by shelf, reading the synopsis at the back. As I was about to give-up, I found this book. After going through a few pages, I liked it. So, that’s how I end-up with this ‘old’ book. :)

Now after a week, I haven’t read much of it. Out of 360 pages, I am only at page 50…hahaha..if I am reading at this pace, and then I definitely have to renew the return date. LOL.

Getting ready for a baby

“What are the things to prepare for the baby?”, “What kind of baby care product you use?”, “What kind of diaper you use?”, etc, etc. These are some frequently asked questions I get from friends who are on their way to become a mother themselves. Well, being a mother of one daughter does not make me an expert but I’ve been there, done that. So, I am qualified to share some info and tips with them, right? Hmm, how fast the time goes by; 2 years ago I was the one who’s asking the same questions to experienced-mommy friends. :)

Okay, as a first time mom-to-be, it is perfectly normal to have the nervous and/or anxiety bugs in your system. Before your baby comes, you don’t exactly know what to do. Therefore, it is wise to have a checklist on hand before your little one’s arrival. In your baby checklist , you should list down all the essential things you need for your new bundle of joy. This should help you get thing organized and ensure none of the necessities are left out. What serves better memory-aid than a comprehensive baby checklist? :)

Now that you are ready with your newborn checklist, future mommy and daddy are ready to go shopping. Don’t feel silly bringing along your checklist! It is an absolutely normal thing to do. Beware! Baby items are simply irresistible! LOL. As soon as you set an eye on those cute, colorful items, you will want to buy them all. Trust me, the temptations are overwhelming! By having a checklist, you will be able to distinguish the necessities from the conveniences, making sure that you stay in focus. There you go another excellent point to have a baby checklist. :)

Hahaha…I recalled my own experience where hubby and I were so eager to shop for our baby. We were advised by other parents to only start shopping on the 28th week onwards. I’m not quite sure why though. Perhaps it is one of the many superstitious beliefs (pantang-larang). But logically thinking, I guess it has something to do with the baby’s sex/gender. At 28th week scan; the doctor should be able to confirm the baby’s sex. You don’t want to buy all baby boys’ clothes only to have a baby girl instead, right? Nevertheless, the wait was totally tormenting! Argh!!! I'd tried my best to restrain myself from going into the baby section. But once or twice, I succumbed to the temptations. Hahahaha..it is just too much to bear!

Okay, ever heard of baby shower? Well, baby shower is a popular tradition in the West. It is a party held to celebrate the future birth of a child. Would-be parents will invite family members, relatives and friends to the party where they will receive gifts for their newborn or expected child. The popular gifts are baby clothing, baby care product, pram / stroller etc. Sounds like fun? Yup, you bet. It is always fun getting free gifts! LOL.

Unfortunately, baby shower is not a common practice in Asia, Sabah especially. Hmm, I didn’t hold one for my daughter and I certainly don’t remember attending any of relatives’ or friends’ baby showers. However, I did get a few gifts from my then boss and colleagues after daughter were 5 days old. Does that count as baby shower? :)

Anyway, hubby and I were very grateful for all the gifts that we received. It helped us with the extra expenses. Among the lovely gifts that we received were baby clothes, a complete baby bedding set (crib sheet, crib bumper, comforter and crib blankets), baby basket, 2 dozens cloth diapers, a stroller, and my favourite gift was - a pink scrapbook, to record the special moments of our daughter, Vanessa from the day she was born until her 5th birthday.

I'm back

After a week long break. Hehe…now I’m a bit blur, mong cha cha on what’s happening in the blogosphere during my absence. I just hope that I didn’t miss a lot, did I? Anyway, I will be doing some catching-up. I will be making my round, visiting your blog soon. *wink*

Okay, what I did on my long break? I spent the first 2 days, looking for an orange color blouse to go with my black skirt for BIL’s wedding reception on June, 01. Orange theme color? A rather unusual choice I guess as most couples will go for pink, blue, red or purple color for their wedding theme. Anyway, I raided all the clothes shops there in Wisma Merdeka, Segama and Centre Point and still no luck. Fortunately, I was alone on my quest. If only hubby had tagged along, he probably had fainted. LOL!

Sure, there were a lot of blouses and dresses in orange color, but the right one is just hard to find. Honestly, orange is not my favourite color, so every time I tried an outfit in that particular color, I felt something wrong with it. If it’s not the fabric, then it’s the style I don’t like etc, etc… At the end of the day, I didn’t find the blouse that suits me but I found a skirt instead. * sigh* Lain yang dicari, lain pulak yang dibeli…:p. It was an unnecessary purchase. But it’s too late to return it by then. * sigh*

I continue the search the next day. Finally, I found the right blouse. The fabric and style all ngam, at City Mall. Ceh! If only I went there first, it would have save me a lot of time. And the most important thing is, I would not end-up buying the skirt. :(

On May 31, hubby, daughter and I went to Keningau. No visiting the KDCA for the Kaamatan highlight. Hmm, even if I was in KK, I doubt that I would want to hustle with the crowd there. I rather stay at home…hehe. I only found out the winner of this year’s Unduk Ngadau thru the paper on the next day. All three of my favourite contestants were in the final, Papar (the winner), Penampang (3rd place) and Likas (7th place).

On June 01, the whole family and relatives (hubby’s side) in Keningau attended BIL’s Holy Matrimony Mass in SFX Cathedral,Keningau. Besides BIL and bride, there were 3 other couples. The Mass ended around noon time. Everybody was becoming impatient, sweating and hungry altogether. But still have to go thru the photo session. We only snapped a few group photos and tried to finish the session as quick as possible. However, it must have felt like eternity to all the other couples and their family and friends for I overheard some grumpy talk on my way to the door. I pity them but what to do? Things like this were to be expected when there is more than one couple to be wedded on the same day.

So, like that la my rojak story…hehe.. This weekend we will be heading back to Keningau again for BIL's wedding reception, groom's side.
