The best Monday

For months, I have been dying to get my hands on the latest Dan Brown’s book, The Lost Symbol. I know it has been long available in major bookstores in KK but being in hardcover, I couldn’t afford to buy one. RM99.90 is a big sum to me. I have to ‘suffer’ until it’s available in small-print paperback... :(

But little did I know that my ‘suffering’ was about to end. During lunch, my heart was itching to go the Penampang Library. And…Yay! I couldn’t be happier with my visit. My ‘suffering’ ended TODAY. There on the “Returned Book” shelf was a copy of the book! Yup, you bet. The moment I found it, I grabbed it off the shelf and borrowed it pronto…hehehe….

I was so happy to find the book. I can hardly contain my happiness. I was smiling from ear to ear all the way back to the office. All the stress of Monday was soon forgotten.

Today is by far, the best Monday I ever had. :)

Another mischievous pet story

In my last post, I talked about one of my cat sleeping and scratching hubby’s car. Now, it was my dog, Nino’s turn to act up. Hahaha…no, he did not climb on the car and sleep on the roof. Nothing like that. If he dares to do that, he’ll be long gone by now to another district or another kampung (village). Kena buang daerah le..apa lagi? :)

So what did Nino do? He chewed my book! I had left the book on the table outside for less than 5 minutes. When I returned, the book was no longer there. At first, I thought my maid or mom had taken it inside while I was pushing Vanessa on her stroller. Yes, my two-year old toddler misses her stroller so much. She insisted on a few rounds at the lawn..hehe..Okay, when Mom and maid confirmed they didn’t, I was puzzled. I swear I left it there. Nobody took it yet it was nowhere to be seen? Strange.

Then, I heard some noise at the side of the house. I went to take a closer look and there it was! My book or what was left of it anyway, was dangling from Nino’s mouth. Torn pieces were everywhere on the floor. I yelled at him, half hoping he’ll abandon it. *slap forehead* Silly me. What was I thinking? The yell only stopped his chewing but dropped it? No way. I tried to pull out the book but he’s not going to surrender his new toy easily. Instead, he moved further. He thought I was playing a game with him! *faint* When I finally caught him, I quickly grabbed the book. Eventually, he let go of his ‘treasure’ but not after some tug of war. Phew…Good thing that Nino is a small sized-dog…LOL…

This is what was left of my book. Only the middle part survived. The beginning and the ending was completely destroyed.

:( My heart still ache for not able to read it to the end. Should I buy a replacement to cure this heartache ? Hmmm..I’m thinking about it…*wink*…

Ideas/tips/suggestions, please...

Still remember the skirt that I ‘accidentally’ (such a lame excuse huh?!) bought last month? Yup, that’s the one, the unnecessary purchase *eyes rolling*. As I said before, I regretted buying it then. Now, I regret it even more. *sigh *

Well, there is nothing wrong with the skirt, no defect whatsoever. I still like the color and the style, but I find it quite difficult to mix and match. Apart from matching it with a black top, I don’t really know what else would match it. So far, I have only worn it once, with a black top of course. I would like to wear it more often but don’t want to pair it with a plain, black top every time *sigh*. So, I’m hoping you guys can give me some tips/ideas/suggestions on how to mix and match this skirt. Thank you. :)

On a different note, I have finished reading The Devil Wears Prada…hehe..finally. My verdict, I love it. Page by page, it was fun to read. It was so gutsy of Andrea (the main character) to tell-off her devilish boss to go f*ck herself and left. Although the bold outburst got her fired but if I’m in her shoes, I’ll do exactly the same thing. LOL. Padan muka tu boss..kotoh!!! If you haven’t read it yet, and happen to be in search for some light reading, then you should consider this book. You won’t regret it. * smile* Okay, I am looking forward to start on the Book of the Dead by Patricia Cornwell, another book borrowed from the library...:)

The devil wears Prada

The book by Lauren Weisberger was published in 2003. The movie came in 2006 starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway among others. Okay, okay, I am perfectly aware that this is old news, sooooo yesterday. But why talk about it now? Well, believe or not, I have not read the book or watch the movie yet….haha…see la how ‘ketinggalan’ I am…

Have I mentioned before that I am a loyal visitor of the State Library, Penampang Branch? Anyway, I am. Duh! Last week, I went to the library to return and to borrow new books at the same time. However, I was frustrated that I can’t find any book that I am interested in. I have read all the available books by my fav authors, so I need to find others but not too sure whether I will like it or not. So there I was, browsing the books, shelf by shelf, reading the synopsis at the back. As I was about to give-up, I found this book. After going through a few pages, I liked it. So, that’s how I end-up with this ‘old’ book. :)

Now after a week, I haven’t read much of it. Out of 360 pages, I am only at page 50…hahaha..if I am reading at this pace, and then I definitely have to renew the return date. LOL.

Angels & Demons : Movie Review

So, I have watched the movie last night at the GSC 1 Borneo Hypermall. Hubby and I arrived there @ 8pm, half an hour before showing. We managed to get tickets for the middle row seating. 15 minutes before the movie started, the theater was a vacant, only a few ppl scattered here and there. “Hmm, maybe this movie was not-so-highly-anticipated after all," I thought. Crowd only started pouring in 5 minutes before showing and a few sec, the theater was packed. Mostly teenagers, UMS students I guess. :)

Having read some of the movie reviews earlier, I knew the storyline was altered slightly to tone down some sensitive issue e.g. the origin of the Carmelengo. Anyway, if you are expecting some romance between Robert and Vittoria, don’t bother. Their relationship is strictly business :) . By the way, I think Robert’s looks better in his new haircut. Glad that he decided to lose the mullet he sported in The Da Vinci Code..hehehe..

Personally, I don’t think this is a great movie but, yes, it is a good one. Entertaining, fast-paced and worth the money. It moves in a breakneck pace, so fast that you may hesitate to blink for fear of missing a clue or a murder. For 2 hours and 15 minutes, nobody left his or her seat until the movie ended. But still, I prefer the book. *wink*

The backdrop and landmarks are so gorgeous. Rome will definitely be on the top of my Places-To-Visit-Before-I-Die list. :)

Angels & Demons

One of the most anticipated movies of the year. A prequel to the The Da Vinci Code movie. So, here I am, waiting 'patiently' in the office for hubby to fetch me. We’ll be heading to the cinema to watch this movie. It’s been a while since we last watched a movie together. :)

Anyway, I have read the bestseller book of the same title 2 years ago, after watching the movie, The Da Vinci Code. I love the book. It sure is a page-turner, packed with actions. Hehe…I found myself running along with Robert Langdon trying to stop the deadly threats of the Illuminati.

I am not crazy about Tom Hanks portraying the Harvard symbologist though. He’s a good actor but I think that somebody else should play the role of the Harvard symbologist. Pierce Brosnan, perhaps? *wink*

As with all book-to-movie adaptations, the movie will sure be not as detail as the book. But, I just hope Ron Howard & the gang didn’t butcher Dan Brown's the story. I hope I won’t be disappointed. :)

As I was passing...

That’s the title of the book that I am currently reading. I borrowed it from the library. It is a re-published collection of amusing anecdotes on the Malaysian way of life in the 1970s. A nice, light and easy reading material, a far cry from the mystery book that I always read. * smile* It came in 2 volumes, but I only managed to find one of them.

These anecdotes were written by Adibah Amin, a celebrated columnist for the New Strait Times in the 70s. “As I Was Passing” was the name of her column. She wrote under the pseudonym, Sri Delima ('the glow of the ruby').

I enjoy reading these stories, stories before my time. Like she said, “You may be amused by the contrast between the lifestyles then and now…yet, you may find surprising similarities." True. Some things like the tuition fever, the generation gap, and peer group tyranny, boys and girls crushes pretty much remained the same despite the passage of time. * smile *

I found myself smiling at them. Some stories really brought back the memories. The autograph fever for instance. As I remembered, during my primary school days in the 80s, having an autograph is a must. Every girl in school has one. Me? No exception. I begged my dad to buy me one when my ‘gang’ had theirs. Tida mau ketinggalan bah sama kawan-kawan yang lain….hehe…

Sentence like “I have a pen, my pen is blue, I have a friend, my friend is you”, “Friendship Forever” or words like FRANCE, which stands for “Friendship Remains And Never Could End” are the favourite messages written in the autograph. Some autograph-ists were even kind enough to stick a photo on his/her page, be it a current photo, childhood photo, colour photo or black & white one…any photo will do. In extreme cases, some even cut-out their face from a group photo….haha…janji ada gambar mo ditampal dalam autograph kawan!

I have not finish my reading yet. But so far, I really enjoy “passing” through the byways of life with Adibah Nor..oppps..Adibah Amin.

Monday ,free and easy…

It’s been raining on and off outside. Now, it’s sunny pulak. Ah…the unpredictable weather. It’s damn cold in the office and not much to do. Yup, you read it right. It’s Monday and not much to do! It’s one of the free and easy Monday that comes only once in a blue moon… *grin* Must be my lucky day!

Started my reading on another James Patterson book, The 5th Horseman while listening to my fav songs on my playlist. Feeling a lil’ bit envy eh? There is more…:p .

I’m also enjoying the kuih cempedak I bought during lunch time. I happened to passed-by a stall when my sensitive nose caught the aromatic smell of the kuih cempedak. Arrgh..can’t help it, got to buy some..I lurrvee them so much! Now my minum petang is almost perfect…all I need is a mug of hot Nescafe to go with my cold kuih cempedak. * A slap on the forehead* Aiseyman, no coffee pulak…a mug of Milo will do la! My other colleagues are also doing their own activity. * wink*

In case you’re wondering how my boss react to this? Hehe…he’s not around all the time. He doesn’t know. He can’t see either. He’s in KL… That’s what I like about my job, no boss bossing around, no office politic.

Break No Bones

No worries, nobody’s getting smacked on the head!! It’s only the title of a book I read, written by Katie Reichs, one of New York Times Bestseller. It’s about a forensic anthropologist, Temperance Brennan, working on a murder case. Oh yeah, there is a TV series, Bones that is created by her.

To solve a murder, of course it involved a lot of investigations, fact-findings with the help of science. These of course, may disinterest some people, but NOT me. I’m an avid fan of investigation stories. NEVER missed an episode of all the three CSI series. While most women enjoy ROMANCE/LOVE stories, I prefer investigation/mysteries, be it a book or TV series. BUT, my interest is NOT LIMITED to investigation series only okay, I am also devoted to the Ugly Betty series. Occasionally, I watch Desperate Housewives, House and Crayon Sin Chan also.

Back on track, it’s been a while since I last read a book. (When was yours? ) The last time I read a book was last year, when I was on leave, nearer to my Expected Due Date. Wah, that was almost a year ago. I borrowed this book from the library, some time in mid of July. I was so bored in the office, needed something to kill-off some time. That time I haven’t started blogging yet. *grin*

Anyway, FINALLY, I managed to finish reading it today. Yeah, after 1 month, and got the return date renewed twice *grin * But, this book is not as good as the others by her. My opinion lah. Its kinda boring, lack of thrill, didn’t really set my adrenaline pumping. In fact, it made me sleepy. Hmm… so I did some “speed reading”…yes, read a few lines, jumped to another page, skipped a few pages * wink-wink*. Maybe it is not the storyline after all, maybe it’s HOW I read it. I’ve been reading on and off, read a few pages and stopped, and came back to it again…after a couple of DAYS, mind you. *grin * By the time I came back to it, I have completely forgotten what happened in the previous page. Have to flip through the earlier pages again to recap. Hehehe…
